Hello Everyone,

Wilmot Horticultural Society is required by law to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM). The purpose of an AGM is for members to receive important information and vote on matters that govern our society. Given the current circumstances, we are considering holding a virtual AGM using Zoom meeting software.

If you were a member of the Society in 2020 and have access to Zoom, please consider making yourself available to attend an important meeting, which will be scheduled if we have enough members to make up a quorum.  Please email the secretary, Yvonne Z, at wilmothortsociety@gmail.com if you can attend and we will send details as soon as possible.

The Board of WHS is looking for new board members. You will help guide the organization in its mandates to educate and learn, beautify our communities, and grow plants and trees. Meetings are held 4 times a year. The Board currently has several vacancies and the term is 2 years. Please consider joining us!  Email wilmothortsociety@gmail.com for more information or if you are interested in participating in this interesting opportunity.

Civic Beautification

We are making plans for this growing season and we need members or new members who would like to get their fingernails and knees dirty in our Wilmot Civic Gardens. WHS has about 50 garden beds that we maintain. The largest concentration is in downtown New Hamburg, especially around the Firehall.

Our priority garden is the Castle Kilbride Heart Garden which is the long garden on the front lawn. Here the coordinator has the opportunity to select the colour and design of the garden (help is available). The plant order is with Colour Paradise. You arrange a planting day for volunteers to plant. The township does the watering and some weeding.

There are several volunteer opportunities that have opened to maintain gardens in St. Agatha, New Dundee, and New Hamburg. What does it entail? Many gardens have perennials and you have artistic license to add annuals or other plant material. Who waters the garden in the heat of the summer? Typically the Wilmot summer student crew waters the annuals. Most years, mulch and compost are offered and dropped off near your garden at your request.
